Shun Artificiality.

Everything I wrote till today was contemplated for a long period of time. I used to think that how can I present before my readers a broader perspective about the issue I’m discussing. Those topics were well thought and were not per se connected to any personal experiences I had. Well some of them did, the others didn’t really come straight from my cupboard of nostalgic memories. Yet today, I present before you such an issue, rather an experience which each of us have definitely had. Buckle up, some real nail-biting stuff coming right up!

This post is about how I perceive reality and if any of my readers disagree with my thoughts, its completely fine. This post is to awaken the real self of people, to show them the mirror and is definitely not a personal attack.

Okay felt like a lawyer for some moments;) Anyways now I will pitch the main topic I wish to discuss. I have observed that a person changes his/her personality to blend with a particular type of crowd and more so these changes are detrimental in nature. Let me be very frank. People tend to act fake, choose to put on the veil of artificiality just to fit in.

‘Fit in or you’re useless’, ‘Fit in or you’ll be left all alone’, ‘Fit in it’s all cool’. I’m tired of hearing these statements. They induce a person to become someone they aren’t. What is the point of having a big fat friend circle if you can’t be yourself? Can’t retain your individuality? I don’t understand why people are trying to portray themselves in a different light just to get someone else’s companionship.

Please Stop! If you are sacrificing the ideals upon which you have built your personality, please stop today! Respect the identity that you possess. If required, give yourselves the dose of improvisation but never punch holes right through your identity and puncture it.

Today’s youth faces two dilemmas-

  1. Will people accept me?

  2. If they don’t, how will I accept myself?

I can’t really express in words the proportion of self-doubt that we house in ourselves every single day. It is just so disheartening to see it. I will now analyse each of the above stated questions and provide a justification about why each of them has no head or tail. They are pointless, have never made sense and will never in the future.

Talking about the ever-trending question of whether people will accept me as I am, this thought is irrelevant. It just shouldn’t bother you. If it does, it is because of lack of self confidence in you. If people cannot accept you the way you are, it is their problem, rather their misfortune. Do not transform yourself for someone else. Even if you do, do it for yourself. Live on your terms because life teaches lessons the harsh way. If you budge to the terms and conditions laid by others, you will end up feeling nothing less that a mechanical toy.

The second question is even more unnecessary. The thoughts emerging from the previous question might create differences between you and someone else but this question will place you in an arena where you will be your own opponent, losing every battle you fight. No one is qualified enough to assess your credibility other than you. Losing self-confidence by heeding the pessimistic words of others is indeed very foolish. Know your worth. I will repeat. Know your worth. Again. KNOW YOUR WORTH. Knowing what you are, what you are capable of is the biggest boon. Friend, when you face the mirror, face your original self. Do not put on any facade. You may convince others by adopting a fake personality but at the end of the day, you cannot look yourself in the eye. Do not tear yourself for others. If people accept you, walk along with them. If they don’t, walk alone. Initially it will be tough, but you’ll learn to tread. You’ll learn to move ahead and trust me, that’s all that matters.

Also, the word ‘Cool’ has become the new cool. Everyone around wants to be tagged as cool. In fact, in the name of cool, bad deeds are worshipped. I might adopt an informal tone here since I am writing this paragraph out of my personal experiences. Nowadays, you disrespect your elders, you’re cool. You do not complete your work on time, you’re cool. You do not take accountability for what you do, you’re cool. You do not listen to others and act bossy, you’re cool. You do not have a routine, you’re cool. You do not tidy up your surroundings after exiting it, you’re cool. You do not know what you are currently upto and want in life, you’re cool. This might seem like an outburst, but the ‘Cool Dude Do’s and Don’ts list’ is endless.

People who do their work on time and know towards which course their life is heading, are seen in a negative light. They are deemed to be boring. I mean what sort of inhumane joke is this? Will you now be sidelined on the basis that you have proper control over your thoughts, actions and life at large? I pity humanity. They are committing a blunder by doing so.

So what’s the deal with Mr.Acceptance? People might not accept you initially. No harm. None at all. If you are different, have the courage to accept it. Have the will to be yourself. You are a gem. Do not get tarnished by what people say or think. Have your own opinion about yourself. Own the person you are.

I always say, it is better to be admired rather than desired. One day, those people who used to turn their backs on you previously, will approach you. They will come to you and on that day, you wouldn’t be required to hunt for acceptance in their eyes. All you will see is reverence for you. Respect for the one you have transformed into and that will be your biggest win.

That being said, I hope I have made myself very loud and clear. Give up on your artificial self. Refuse to embrace negativity. Just be yourself, you’re enough for the world. Be conscious of who you are, not pretentious. What is the use of living life if you have to be an actor throughout? If you have to put up an act just to survive? Don’t do it.

So until next time, keep flourishing. Fulfill all your endeavours your way! More power to you!

Thank you!
