An Hour for Myself

‘Try and Try until you succeed’, ‘Winners don’t do different things, they do things differently’…… These are the quotes that we often used on display boards during school projects, decorated in the most calligraphic way. They are nice. Have helped us gain the ‘Best Display Board’ Award too. However, how many of us actually made sense of these sayings and discovered the meaning behind them? Needless to say, this arena is hardly crowded.

Quotes are best justified when we don’t only quote them when required but also extract their true essence while using them and understand what they want to convey. There are two sides of this story. One milestone will be achieved when we learn to appreciate the meaning of these quotes and allow them to echo through our personality. The other milestone will assume centerstage from here on.

Merely understanding will not suffice. Thoughtful application is equally essential for the right character building. Application of relevant thoughts to better ourselves is only possible when we spend time on analyzing our current personality, identifying our shortcomings and hunting for ways to fill the potholes causing unnecessary learning gaps.

I am trying not to sound like the ‘Steps to Prepare’ section of a dish in a cooking manual but conveniently, I am plunging into the same procedure without much reservedness because it will help me convey my thoughts in a systematic manner.

Shooting the bird in it’s eye, I have now arrived at the most important destination of this blogpost. Throwing light on the heading line, all we need to do to fill the above discussed gaps is to devote one hour’s time towards our personality development.

One hour may sound less, but that is all it takes on a daily basis to achieve the greatest of our dreams. This is the other milestone I had mentioned about earlier, perhaps more fundamental that its predecessor. This is the path which will lead us to greatness. One hour for our progress.

Everyone is aware about their capabilities, but less aware or rather less interested in their weaknesses. That lack of interest is due to ignorance. No one wants to face their flaws. Understandable, but not appreciable. We must change this attitude of ours and embrace our flaws with open arms. Only then will we be able to squeeze time out for ourselves from our ever-hectic schedules.

Openness to weakness is the need of the hour. Once we have a clear mind, we can identify the areas we have to work on. From here, the path is quite easy and rosy as well.

We can choose to spend that one hour in any way our conscience allows us to. Be it honing our communication skills, giving the artist in us a flair, polishing our cooking skills, giving those triceps a boost and indulging in regular body and mind wellness, improving our vocabulary, learning new concepts from our fields of interest or something even as simple as a page of handwriting everyday. Lets just do something which makes us feel happy and lively all the time.

It can be as miniscule as keeping our bookshelves clean or as mammoth as exploring outer space. It can be anything which escalates our character and helps us overcome our difficulties.

In these desperate times, optimism and happiness are the most expensive commodities. Only this time, they can’t be bought with money. They demand nothing more than hope. Hope to bring a smile on our own faces and others too. Experience this process once and welcome home the feeling of pure bliss.

Lets invest one hour in ourselves for a better future. Don’t worry, if you are willing to hop onto this ride, time won’t be too cruel with you! It will associate with you.

Best Regards
